Book of Deer ♥s Claymate Creatures
Today I want to share with you the work of Daria Lapto, whose work I stumbled upon via Instagram. Daria is a doll maker from Ulyanovsk, Russia and she meticulously sculpts wondrously surreal creatures using clay and natural textiles. You can instantly see the love and care that goes into creating each of her Claymate Creatures, pastel fluffy hybrid animals sporting antlers, horns and warpaint. Each creature looks both huggable and feral, I guarantee you'll want to adopt one yourself:
Speaking about where she draws inspiration from in an interview with Veranellies, Daria says: "I love everything that possesses some kind of very quiet and gentle sadness hidden deep under million layers of either joy or anger. I think Scandinavian and Japanese culture contain a lot of elements like this – they combine simplicity and significance. Sometimes I give my creatures names like Olav or Haru, it really seems to suit them." Daria sells her dolls through her very popular VK account: vk.com/claymate
