So remember how I told you a little while ago that I would be heading to a tradeshow in Tokyo? Well it's finally here.. I am leaving for Tokyo tomorrow for the first time ever and it feels completely surreal! I will be exhibiting at Roomslink Tokyo which is a mammoth tradeshow from what I hear, I am fully prepared to have to navigate it with a compass!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This week has been a bit mad trying to get everything ready in time.. printing off linesheets, pricesheets, flyers, sticker, namecards...etc. I have tried to prepare for every possible scenario as this is my first tradeshow and I want to appear as professional as possible. I will be happy to come away from this experience with even just one great new contact!

 I am very lucky that I will have my super organised, proactive sister with me, I will feel much calmer with her there. As a super, added bonus I will have my brother-in-law in tow too, he is Japanese and will be my official translator/tour guide/culture expert. As a lifelong fan of Japanese pop culture, there is so much I am desperate to see, eat, do and shop. We will be at the tradeshow from 10am-7pm every day so there will be little time for city exploring. However, I fully intend to indulge in all the shamelessly touristy things after hours!   I know it's a long shot but if by some wonderful happenstance one of you dear readers is based in Japan. May I present to you... our Spring Summer 2014 collection 'Book of Deer Flower Child'

This season Book of Deer embraces flower power and plays on the names of our favourite flowers... Cars atop Carnations, teacups amongst Buttercups, lampshades on Nightshade and foxes along Foxglove stems. This whimsical collection draws inspiration from the carefree, peace-loving ladies of the late 60s and early 70s. A candy hued palette of colour pencil flowers adorn long cotton dresses and breezy blouses. Miniature vinyl records are scattered on chambray pinafores and lightweight Summer jackets. Lampshades on hotpants and vintage beetle cars on wrap skirts, you'll have to look closely to spot all the hidden details amongst the twisting stems and petals. Shamelessly flowery and nostalgic, Book of Deer SS14 retells the summer of love with a fantasy element. There's more to the flower bed than meets the eye!

 

 It may seem a long, long way from now...but I do hope you will embrace your inner hippie with me next Summer! x

With each Book of Deer collection, the photoshoot serves as a symbolic closing chapter to a season of hard work and development. I can't tell a lie though, as rewarding and exciting as photoshoots can be I always find them quite stressful. It's the combination of time pressure jitters and sense of responsibility that makes me feel anxious right up until the final shot is snapped. Lucky for me, I always manage to assemble a really wonderful little team. I completely credit my makeup artist Wil and photographer Takao for helping me bring to life an ambience and story I have in my head-- heaven knows I can be incredibly vague in my descriptions! I'm also thanking my lucky stars that I found the perfect model for this season, Paula was cute and fun and perfectly captured the vibe I had in mind for Book of Deer SS14.

I thought I would treat you to a little sneak preview of SS14 before it is unveiled next week.... it's happy and flowery with all the usual hand-drawn good stuff thrown in so I hope you are all going to love it!
